We are often asked whether roller doors need servicing and if so what servicing and maintenance needs carrying out. Your Roller door is designed to be as low maintenance as possible, so very little servicing is required.
There are some simple measures that you should take to keep the roller door working smoothly and to prolong the life of your roller garage door.
How to service your roller door
Time needed: 1 hour
What is involved in roller door servicing?
- Check for Obstructions
When operating your roller door, make sure there are no objects causing an obstruction and watch the door close and open fully.
- Clean with Warm Soapy Water
Regularly clean the curtain of the roller garage door with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, as you would your car paintwork. Your window cleaner may also be able to include your roller door when cleaning the windows at your home.
- Clear the Guide Runners
Ensure the guide runners are kept clear of debris and obstructions, such as stones, leaves and twigs.
- Replace the Batteries
Check the remotes and any sensors are working correctly and replace any batteries as needed.
- Check Opening and Closing Limits
From time to time check that the door is stopping in the correct position. When open, one slat should remain in the guide runners, rather than in the roll box. When closed, the door slats should be compressed together but not so much as to strain the motor or locking straps.
- Check Wiring is Secure
When servicing it’s also a good idea to check that any cables connecting the door to the control box or any sensors is still secured and not damaged in any way.
- Wipe Sensors
If your roller door is fitted with photocells or optical sensors, give the sensors a gentle wipe with a damp cloth to remove any dust.
