In recent years there has been a huge increase in cycling. Many people that had not cycled for years fell back in love with the sport and purchased a bike or even an electric bike during lockdown. Those who already loved cycling made the most of the extra time at home by upgrading their bike or adding to their bike collection.
Sadly, bike theft is also on the increase. Some bikes cost many thousands of pounds, so they are a tempting target for thieves. Bikes are often kept in a garage or outbuilding that may not be as secure as it could be, making them easy pickings. 300,000 bikes are stolen each year, many of them from home.
Improve your bike security at home
The police give some tips on keeping your bike secure at home.
- Keep it locked up with a decent lock, perhaps to a ground anchor
- Security mark it and add it to a database
- Secure your outbuildings
We are very conscious about keeping our bike locked or not leaving it unattended when we are away from the home. But once we are home and it’s back in the garage or shed we may make the assumption that it is safe and secure.
Have you considered the security of your garage or shed? Are the windows and doors as secure as they can be? Is it always kept locked? Is the garage alarmed? Those are all good questions to consider.
Something else to consider is the garage door. They are often flimsy and insecure. Perhaps a high security roller door would be more suitable. Our “Diamond” door even attains Secured By Design status, having been tested against prolonged brute force attacks to ensure it is as secure as can be.
As well as automatically locking when they close, our “Gold” and “Diamond” roller doors both come fitted with intruder alarms as standard for that extra peace of mind. Contact us today on 01245 905 509 to discuss a roller door solution to keep your bike and other property secure.
